The Indian cricket team was in a dire strait after losing the first two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against Bangladesh. However, they staged a miraculous comeback to win the third ODI and regain some of their pride.
Ishan Kishan not only scored a “record-breaking” double century in the 50-over format, but also the experienced Virat Kohli scored his 72nd international hundred during the match. The match was described as a “record-breaker.”
Wasim Jaffer, a former opener for India, is feeling terrible about what the current situation implies for Shubman Gill. While it is understandable that Kishan has improved his position in India’s ODI team, Wasim Jaffer is feeling bad for Shubman Gill.
Even though Gill has been doing exceptionally well for the Indian squad in the 50-over format and has amassed a large number of runs, he was not selected for the One-Day International series that was played against the Bangla Tigers.
Jaffer stated in a video that was uploaded on Cricinfo that because Kishan scored a double century, he is now ranked higher than Shubman in the competition for the opening spots in one-day internationals (ODIs).
“Clearly, Ishan Kishan has created some distance between himself and Shubman Gill at this point. Gill was the frontrunner prior to this innings, and I can’t help but feel a little bit sorry for him.
Previously, after Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, he was the third opener in the line, but now he will be the fourth opener in the line. There are instances when you would wonder why Gill is not on the team despite the fact that he has done nothing wrong “explained Jaffer.
Jaffer continues to be of the opinion that Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma will be India’s preferred opening pairing in ODIs. However, he did admit that a decision needs to be made about the southpaw who hasn’t been in the best of form as of late. Despite this admission, Jaffer is still of the opinion that Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma will be India’s preferred opening pairing in ODIs.
“He was quite successful in New Zealand and in any other opportunity that he was presented with. However, we have seen in recent times that certain players do not make the cut and are dropped, and this is going to place those individuals in yet another difficult situation.
Who will be their third and fourth openers, and what role will Shikhar Dhawan play in the team? He is the senior opener, and he has not been performing well in this series.
They are interested in lending their support to him because of the kind of track record he has. That the No. 3 and No. 4 opening positions are still up in the air is a question mark “he made the claim.
