The six-team GT20 Canada 2024 edition will feature top cricketers from around the world, including Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, Australian David Warner and Marcus Stoinis, Pakistan’s Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi, Caribbean stars Sunil Narine and Carlos Brathwaite, and the Afghan duo of Mohammad Nabi and Naveen-ul-Haq, who are globally recognised as cricketing success stories.
The region is about to experience a cricketing spectacular with the GT20 Canada 2024 edition scheduled to begin in Brampton, Ontario on 25 July and run through August 11, building on the cricket fever consuming North America with the successful conduct of the existing Global T20 cricket showpiece.
Founded with the goal of making cricket more widely known and creating a strong cricketing community in North America, the Canada Cricket League offers both domestic and foreign players the ideal stage on which to showcase their skills in an almost ideal environment for a top-tier cricket match. A major platform for showcasing the development of the sport, GT20 Canada has made a name for itself on the cricketing calendars of Canada, North America, and the world. This is especially true in light of Canada’s historic debut at the current ICC T20 World Cup and some standout performances from the country’s cricketing talent.
In addition to the best local talent from North America’s premier cricket scene, the event will showcase some of the biggest names in the world of cricket.
Cricket in Canada and North America has developed significantly thanks in large part to leagues, as noted by GT20 Canada’s founder, Gurmeet Singh Bhamrah. “The GT20 Canada is still a key player in the game’s advancement in Canada. The development of the sport in the area is significantly impacted when the greatest local and international players frequently interact.
The entire Canadian national team, led by captain Saad Bin Zafar, leading run scorer Nicholas Kirton, and Aaron Johnson—who just made history by becoming the first player to score a half-century on the difficult New York pitch during the ICC T20 World Cup—will play in this edition of the GT20 Canada.
Andries Gous, the World Cup’s top run scorer, and Harmeet Singh Baddhan, who both contributed significantly to the United States’ incredible ICC T20 World Cup campaign, are also joining North America’s top cricket league.
The league was established with the intention of bringing global superstars to the area, giving local talent a platform, and unlocking the enormous potential for cricketing growth in the region, according to Joy Bhattacharya, CEO of GT20 Canada. Cricket is expected to be elevated by GT20 Canada 2024, which will also serve as a major source of inspiration for upcoming generations of players and fans.
By selecting six players from ICC Full Member nations and an additional four from Associate nations for their separate squads, each of the six franchises has assembled a potent group of domestic and international cricket stars. This is on top of the requirement that every club roster include eight Canadian players, which is necessary to develop the sport in the area.
Warner will be the star of the Brampton Wolves team, while Afridi and West Indies all-arounder Romario Shepherd will support the Toronto Nationals. The captain of Pakistan, Azam, together with his fellow countrymen, Muhammad Amir and Muhammad Rizwan, provide the Vancouver Knights with a plethora of expertise and style.
In the meantime, Shakib, along with the Afghans Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai, will provide strength and intelligence to the Bangla Tigers Mississauga, while Stoinis and Narine will provide power and cunning to the Surrey Jaguars. Along with Chris Lynn and Sherfane Rutherford, two of the biggest names in T20, Naveen, another Afghan talent, is headed to the Montreal Tigers, the 2023 Champions.
