The public has been reassured by Alex Marshall, the outgoing head of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) anti-corruption unit, that the cricket they watch is devoid of wrongdoing. He did, however, issue a warning, saying that individuals looking to taint the game typically enter through regional T20 tournaments that are not overseen by the ICC but rather its member countries. Furthermore, he expressed the opinion that as long as there is money to be made, corruptors will continue to search for a way inside.
“I’m sure the cricket you’re watching is clean and safe. However, I am also positive that dishonest people are always searching for ways to get into the game, especially in poorly managed lower-tier franchise leagues. The Times of India cited Marshall as saying, “The threat to the game is corruptors won’t go away while there is always money to be made and they will look for weaknesses in the system to get in.”

He also expressed his happiness at the growing number of athletes who are prepared to come forward and disclose corruption, as this helps the global body to uphold the integrity of the game.
“I am proud of the significant increase in trust from players who now report approaches to us frequently whereas there was a time when they lacked confidence in confidentiality and the action that will be taken,” he stated. “When corruptors participate in cricket, they are now exposed, exposed, and blacklisted. Additionally, we now educate players on the identities and tactics of corruptors, making everyone much more prepared and safe to prevent corruption in the game.”
It is noteworthy that Marshall handled numerous important events throughout his seven years of service with the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit. Shakib Al Hasan, a senior all-rounder for Bangladesh, was subjected to harsh punishment by the organization under his direction when he neglected to disclose an unscrupulous contact from an Indian bookmaker.

Sri Lanka proved to be a positive news story since the ICC and local authorities addressed some very important issues. With new laws and more robust security, Sri Lanka is now far better equipped to stave against corrupt officials, according to Marshall.
