Former player Waqar Younis will answer directly to Mohsin Naqvi as the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) advisor for cricket matters. His role is to manage and grow the domestic cricket circuit. New competitions called the Champions One-Day Cup, Champions T20 Cup, and Champions First-Class Cup have been announced by PCB.
The Dolphins, Lions, Panthers, Stallions, and Wolves are the five teams competing in the event. A few centrally contracted players will also be available for selection, in addition to the best domestic players from each team competing in the event. Five iconic cricket players will also be connected to each club during the competition, according to a PCB announcement.
Waqar Younis addressed that and stated that the apex council will soon reveal the identities and that he is in contact with a few of them.
He went on to say that the objective is very clear: he wants to improve Pakistan Cricket and is willing to help it develop. He discussed how the presence of renowned players in the lineup will motivate and assist aspiring cricket players in improving.
Five legends will be chosen to lead the teams, and I’ve already spoken with a few of them. The situation of cricket right now is evident: it has to be improved. Stadiums hold significance, but improving the calibre of play ought to be our primary goal. It is important to involve legends and famous cricketers in the process. We’ve talked with some luminaries about the Chairman’s great proposal to include these figures, Waqar was cited by OneCricket as saying.

“We’re going to make the identities of people who will assist the sport grow public soon. I firmly believe in this idea and wish it much success. Cricket continues to be our product, and in order to keep our brand alive, we need to play good cricket. The rest comes later,” he continued. It is anticipated that Pakistan’s domestic season would start on September 1 and last through August 2025.
