Pakistan is considering hiring West Indies veteran Vivian Richards as a possible squad adviser for the next T20 World Cup. With 20 teams for the first time, the World Cup, which is scheduled to start in ten days in the USA and the West Indies, promises to be historic.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly in negotiations with the former West Indies batting great, according to sources cited by Geo News. Vivian Richards, who is renowned for his extensive expertise and profound understanding of Caribbean circumstances, can provide the Pakistani team with invaluable information. The PSL team Quetta Gladiators benefited from his mentorship in the past, which is why PCB is interested in hiring him.
However, because of his current media obligations for the tournament, PCB will have a difficult time enlisting Vivian Richards. The board is still hopeful about adding Richards to their support staff in spite of this obstacle.
Pakistan’s white-ball team has seen a significant makeover following the departure of former director of cricket Mohammad Hafeez earlier this year. Gary Kirsten, a former cricket player from South Africa, was named head coach for limited-overs cricket last month. Kirsten recently joined the Pakistan team in Leeds for their four-match T20I series against England. Kirsten led India to victory in the 2011 World Cup and to the top spot in the ICC Test rankings.
The Pakistan World Cup practice series versus England is critical to Kirsten’s goal of inspiring her country to victory. May 22 at Headingley Carnegie and May 30 in London mark the start and end of the T20I series.
