Virat Kohli, the star player for India, posted a video discussing the shortage of playgrounds for kids. The state and federal governments have been asked to submit their reply within two weeks after the Uttarakhand High Court took suo motu cognizance of the matter.
The sports secretary for Uttarakhand, the urban development secretary, the youth affairs and sports secretary, and the Government of India were among those who received notices from a division bench led by Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Rakesh Thapliyal. The court has requested information regarding the government’s strategies for providing playgrounds for children. On October 9, the hearing will take place.
“They [the kids] are denied a nice setting where they may do sports, which, as we’ve seen, greatly aids in their development both physically and mentally. Aside from that, these sports also help children develop social skills that would serve them well in the future, according to the Division Bench of Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Rakesh Thapliyal.
The former captain of India opened up about the country’s sporting landscape in a video he shared while interacting with some young people. The High Court observed that there are often no playgrounds for children.
Children who play “gully” (street) cricket wrote the Chief Justice to express their dissatisfaction about the lack of space for them to play without upsetting the peace of the neighborhood. Given that playgrounds are crucial for children, the High Court has asked the government to make its strategy for creating play spaces public.
The court further inquired as to whether there were any Khelo India programs that called for the construction of playgrounds for young children’s physical development. The court further noted that sports require infrastructure and enhance physical condition. The court stated that because kids these days spend their spare time using gadgets like laptops, mobile phones, and computers, their physical and mental development is hampered.
