An 11-year drought for an ICC trophy came to an end on June 29 as the Men in Blue overcame South Africa in the showpiece event finals. At the Kensington Oval in Barbados, India’s top order was lost during the powerplay, hence the onus was on the talisman batter to save his team. With Axar Patel and Shivam Dube, Kohli forged partnerships worth over fifty runs to salvage the Indian innings. Eventually, after hitting six fours and two sixes, the 35-year-old concluded with a tough 76 runs off 59 balls. After limiting the Proteas to 169/8 in their 20 overs, the Asian giants recorded 176/7, sending their supporters into a frenzy as they won the thrilling match by seven runs.
