During the first one-day international match between India and New Zealand, which took place on Wednesday in Hyderabad, Virat Kohli was left stunned after losing his wicket to Mitchell Santner for a lowly score.
In the previous series against Sri Lanka, Kohli had a fantastic run of form, but while batting on 8, he was utterly bamboozled by a length delivery.
After Santner’s pitch, the ball maintained its line, but Kohli managed to completely botch his attempt to hit it.
The Indian batsman did not make any touch with the ball, and it went on to smash into the off stump without missing a beat. It was clear from Kohli’s attitude that he was taken away by the lack of action off the field. His surprise was visible on his face.
In the series against Sri Lanka, Kohli was named Player of the Series after scoring two big hundreds, and he continued his strong play on Wednesday by beginning the innings with a superb cover drive boundary.
After a magnificent opening stand of 50 runs between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, India, however, lost two wickets in a short amount of time as a result of the dismissal.
Gill kept the scoreboard moving and eventually reached his third century in one-day internationals while India continued to lose wickets at a somewhat regular interval.
The youthful opener also became the fastest Indian batsman to score 1000 runs in one-day international cricket, and he is now tied for second place overall, trailing only Fakhar Zaman of Pakistan in this category.
Gill was able to reach the milestone in 19 innings, whereas Zaman was able to accomplish the record in 18 innings.
Earlier on, the captain of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma, won the toss and decided to bat first. Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Shardul Thakur were added to the Indian team after a number of roster adjustments were made by the country.
