God’s Scheme! In a video posted by ICC’s official Instagram account, Virat Kohli and Rinku Singh enjoyed a playful moment while repeating this mantra. The two can be seen exchanging words prior to Kohli collecting the trophy, as Kohli was named the 2023 ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup. As the Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL 2024, ending a ten-year drought and winning the title for a third time, Rinku Singh popularised the mantra.
To earn the prize, Kohli overcame formidable opposition from Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand and Shubman Gill and Mohammed Shami of India. He also got last year’s Team of the Year hat.
In 2023, Kohli experienced a comeback in the 50-over format, despite Team India’s devastating loss in the World Cup Final. His 765 runs across 11 games earned him the Player of the Tournament award. This total is the most in a World Cup history, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s 673 runs from the 2003 World Cup.
Currently, Kohli is in the West Indies and the USA as India looks to capture a second T20 World Cup title. He also won the second Orange Cap (Most Runs) of his career in the IPL 2024.
In addition, Virat Kohli leads all T20 World Cup scorers in runs scored, and he plans to set new records this summer.
Furthermore, ‘God’s Plan’ might mean even more to the guys in blue this year if Rinku’s motto comes true. As a member of the reserves after almost missing out on the 15-man roster, Rinku has also flown to the USA with the team.
