Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have both had several heartbreaks in the last ten years. India has lost in the finals of the Champions Trophy in 2017, the T20 World Cup in 2014, and the ODI World Cup in 2023, but they have come very close to winning an ICC championship. Before they retired from cricket, both players were itching to win an ICC trophy, so they were overjoyed when they did so in the T20 World Cup 2024.
All of the Indian cricket players, but Rohit in particular, were visibly upset after their victory over South Africa on the last night at Kensington Oval in Barbados. Rohit was even spotted sobbing while lying on the ground. While both were visibly upset that their wishes had come true, Kohli was also seen crying. In a widely shared video, the two legendary players from Indian cricket were seen grinning broadly and offering each other hugs. Rohit was also seen patting Kohli.

On the internet, Rohit and Virat have encountered immense adversity. For nearly ten years, the supporters of Kohli and Rohit accused the other cricket player of being the cause of India’s subpar results. At one time, there were many rumours that both players had a falling out, but in the media, Kohli and Rohit consistently showed support for one another and spoke of their strong friendship.
Their legacy also benefited greatly by the World Cup victory. Even though he has scored the most runs in T20 World Cup history, Kohli has never taken home the gold. However, Rohit’s defeats in the 2022 semi-final against England and the two 2023 finals left him desperate to establish his worth as captain. Leading India in runs scored at the end of the competition, he took the lead early on. Notably, on the night of the final, the Men in Blue overcame South Africa by seven runs to win the prized trophy.
