India’s 2024 T20 World Cup campaign kicks off in Dubai on October 4 against New Zealand. On September 25, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team departed for the United Arab Emirates. To determine the playing XI and get a feel for the circumstances, they will play a few warm-up games against the West Indies and South Africa. India is considered one of the favourites this time around despite their recent struggles in ICC competitions, where spin is predicted to play a significant role.
Senior cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy discussed India’s chances and said that adapting to the UAE’s conditions will be essential since she believes the spin unit, especially Deepti Sharma, will perform well. The Bengal all-rounder hopes to carry on in the same manner after winning the Women’s Hundred with London Spirits because to her outstanding performance.
Pooja Vastrakar would be crucial with the semi-new ball, hitting those hard lengths, Veda added.
She continued by saying that Renuka Singh Thakur is capable of succeeding in any situation and that, all things considered, India would be a formidable team in the next Twenty20 World Cup.
Playing in the UAE requires adjusting to the local conditions, especially with this team. Not many things have changed since Bangladesh hosted the previous competition. We rely a lot on our spinners, especially Deepti Sharma, who has been a vital bowler for us. It’s a highly spin-heavy team, Veda said Star Sports.
It’s worked well for India with the fast bowlers, particularly Pooja Vastrakar, who comes in with the semi-new ball and hits those powerful distances. It’s all about how they get going, and no matter what, they need Renuka to shoot. I believe India will be really strong in this World Cup if they can pull that off,” she continued.
