As the greatest wicket-taker in the four-match T20I series between South Africa and India, Varun Chakaravarthy had an incredible run in the Rainbow Nation. In a post-match presentation following Friday, November 15, the fourth Twenty20 International at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, the mystery spinner discussed his role and the difficulties he had throughout the series.
Because of the shorter boundaries in the last two Twenty20 Internationals in Centurion and Johannesburg, the 33-year-old acknowledged that the conditions weren’t ideal for spinners. But according to Chakaravarthy, India’s decision to enter the series with three spinners was a brilliant one.
Because of the narrow limits, the last two games have been difficult. A mis-shot may cost us a wicket, despite the fact that a couple sixes were hit. “It worked for us to use three spinners in the series,” Chakaravarthy stated during the post-match presentation.
He emphasised how his collaboration with leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi was essential to India’s victory, saying, “Me and Bishnoi set up a partnership and it worked.”
The best course of action was to avoid the arc: Varun Chakaravarthy
Chakaravarthy talked about how his task will be made more difficult by his attempts to counter the South African batters’ narrower boundaries. The spinner from Tamil Nadu claimed that by bowling a few short balls and avoiding the batters’ hitting zone, he was able to achieve success.
“The best approach was to stay away from the arc, and I bowled a few short balls, which actually worked for me as well,” Chakaravarthy stated.
