On Day 2 of the upcoming one-off U-19 Test match between Australia and India, Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history by hitting an incredible century off just 58 balls at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In U-19 Tests, the 13-year-old set a new record for India’s fastest centurion.
Additionally, Suryavanshi narrowly missed setting the record for the fastest century in U-19 Tests overall. Currently, Moeen Ali holds it after smashing a 56-ball century in 2005. Returning to Suryavanshi’s mastery in the opening session on Tuesday, October 01, the left-handed hitter reached his landmark with 14 fours and 4 sixes.
When Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his debut as the youngest Ranji Trophy winner ever last season, it made headlines.
Unfortunately, Christian Howe got him run out for a 62-ball 104 just after he reached the enchanted three-figure mark, forcing him to be removed. The teenage player had an astounding strike rate of 167.74 when he ended his knock.
At the tender age of twelve, he beat the record held by Yuvraj Singh and Sachin Tendulkar and represented Bihar. The gifted cricket player has so far participated in two first-class matches.
Vihaan Malhotra’s skilful assistance
On the first day, Riley Kingsell and Aidan O’Connor produced half-centuries before the Australians were bowled out for 293 runs. Samarth Nagaraj and Mohammed Enaan each claimed three wickets for India. Australia’s trip of India has not gone well because they were humiliated in the Youth ODI series that came before the red-ball match. Hayden Schiller and company will be haunted for a while by Suryavanshi’s most recent attack.
As Suryavanshi was putting out his best effort, fellow opener Vihaan Malhotra (49*) was also playing well and providing solid assistance. The 17-year-old, who has already struck eight boundaries at Lunch, is approaching his 50th birthday.
In order to put pressure on the tourists in their second innings, the Indians will try to gain a commanding lead in the first innings. All-rounder Soham Patwardhan leads India’s batting side, while wicketkeeper-battler Simon Budge leads the Australians.
