Use Shikhar Dhawan Again, Or Flirt With Ishan Kishan? When Asked About The Opening Predicament In One-Day Internationals, R Ashwin Speaks

Team India has gotten off to a strong start in its preparations for the forthcoming One-Day International World Cup, having just finished the One-Day International format and achieving a perfect 5-0 record against both Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill, who both scored their first-ever double centuries in one-day internationals against Bangladesh and New Zealand, respectively, have emerged as new openers for the team captained by Rohit Sharma and guided by Rohit Sharma.

However, because of their unexpected ascent, the path has been closed for the experienced India opener Shikhar Dhawan, and it is now unlikely that he will be selected for the team that will compete in the showpiece event.

Dhawan was the captain of Team India during the One-Day International series that was played against Bangladesh. The away team was defeated by Bangladesh in the three-game series by a score of 2-1.

Ishan’s performance in the third one-day international, in which he scored his first ever 200 runs, was the highlight of the series, despite the fact that his team ultimately came out on the losing end.

As a result of Dhawan’s poor performance in the series, in which he scored a total of only 18 runs across three games, he was dropped from the team for the One-Day Internationals that were played against Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

However, India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin defended Dhawan and referred to him as a “stalwart of white-ball cricket.” Ashwin made this statement.

“In the past, we only ran into difficulties when one of the top three failed. Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli. Although Rohit and Kohli receive a lot of attention, Dhawan is a reliable player.

He was quietly going about his duties. Will it be difficult for Team India to find someone to take his place? “The statement was made by Ashwin on his channel on YouTube.

“Should we go back to Shikhar Dhawan, or should we groom Ishan Kishan, who has just got a double hundred?” “Should we go back to Shikhar Dhawan, or should we groom Ishan Kishan?” We shouldn’t back a player solely on the strength of a single impressive score; rather, we should consider what the squad needs.

Who among these characters will shine when the stakes are raised? Which one of these characters will be of use to us for a very long time?” he asked further.

Dhawan has represented India in a total of 167 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and has amassed a staggering total of 6793 runs for his country. These scores include 17 hundreds and 39 half-centuries.

Hardik Pandya, an all-rounder, is currently in charge of Team India as they play New Zealand in a Twenty20 International series that consists of three matches.

The series is now tied 1-1 after to the home team’s victory in the second Twenty20 international on Sunday. They beat the visitors by six wickets.

On Wednesday, the game that will decide the series will take place in Ahmedabad.
