On June 12, Match 25 took place at the Nassau County Stadium in New York between the United States of America (USA) and India, the interim Group A winners. After winning the toss, India decided to field first.
Being the first bowler from India to achieve a strike from the opening delivery of an innings in a T20 World Cup match, Arshdeep Singh stunned the USA. Shayan Jahangir was removed by him after he was caught stealing in front of the wicket. With the exception of Nitish Kumar, who hit 27 runs off 23 deliveries, the middle order in the USA was unable to get going. Steven Taylor, who scored 24 runs off 30 balls, provided excellent assistance for him. Corey Anderson attempted to escalate the situation, but Hardik Pandya dismissed him for 15 runs off of 12 balls.
The USA batsmen ultimately found the Indian bowlers to be too hot to handle, as they concluded the innings with 110/8. Pandya and Axar took two and one wicket, respectively, but Arshdeep was the most impressive player with 4/9 off his four overs.

India’s pursuit did not start off well when Kohli was out of the game for a golden duck by Saurabh Netravalkar. Rohit Sharma, who added just three runs to India’s total, was his second victim shortly after. As they established a vital partnership of 29(32), Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav rebuilt the innings. Shivam Dube backed Yadav after Pant was exposed to Ali Khan, and the two combined to win the match with a score of 67*(65). India triumphed by seven wickets after SKY reached his half century near the finish. The best bowler for the USA was Netravalkar (2/18).
How can the USA get to the Super 8 round of the T20 World Cup in 2024?
The United States would advance to the next round if they win their final matchup against Ireland on Friday, June 14. If that does not materialise, though, they will have to rely on other outcomes to work in their advantage.
After then, the USA would also need Ireland to defeat Pakistan. In the event of a Pakistani victory, they would advance to four points as well, surpassing the co-hosts thanks to their NRR, which is already higher than the USA’s. Although Ireland’s current NRR of -1.712 will make it difficult for them to finish second in such a scenario, they would still advance to four points if they win their next two games.
It will come down to whose NRR is higher if Canada defeats India, and the match would go to four points. All things considered, the USA’s best chance is to defeat Ireland in their final match and automatically advance to the Super 8 without incident.
