On Friday, Umran Malik finally made his One-Day International (ODI) debut after being picked to the playing XI for the first One-Day International (ODI) of the three-match series against New Zealand.
The fast bowler made an immediate impression by overcoming Devon Conway, and shortly after that, he also dismissed Daryl Mitchell. Both of these dismissals came in quick succession.
Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper, took a catch off the first ball of the 16th over sent by Umran Malik, giving Umran his first wicket of the match. Conway was the batter who fell victim to Umran’s bowling.
Conway went for a drive but could only get a thin edge outside the off stump as the delivery was full, rapid, and wide. The delivery was bowled outside of the off stump. Rishabh Pant was able to secure the catch with little effort.
Soon after that, Umran prevailed against Daryl Mitchell, and he made an immediate impact in his first One-Day International (ODI).
Sairaj Bahutale, the bowling coach, was the one who presented Umran with his first one-day international cap.
After being given the opportunity to bat first in the first one-day international match, Team India scored 306/7 in the allotted 50 overs.
All three of Dhawan (72), Shreyas Iyer (80), and Shubman Gill (50) produced terrific knocks, but in the end, it was Washington Sundar’s unbeaten 37-run effort off of 16 balls that helped India record more over 300 runs on the board.
Shikhar Dhawan, who bats left-handed, is currently in charge of Team India in the One-Day International series that they are currently playing against New Zealand.
The seasoned pro showed what he is made of against the home team by scoring 72 runs in the first one-day international (ODI) and putting together a stand for the opening wicket with Shubman Gill that was worth 124 runs.
Ravi Shastri, a former head coach for Team India, lauded Dhawan before the first one-day international match, saying that the left-handed batsman does not get the credit that he truly deserves.
During the pre-match coverage of the first one-day international on Prime Video, Shastri said the following: “He has a great deal of life experience. The praise that he should receive does not seem to be forthcoming. To tell you the truth, the most of the attention is being directed toward Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
However, when one considers his record in one-day cricket and some of the innings he has played against elite teams in important games, one realises that he possesses an excellent record.”
