After a spectacular 2022 IPL (Indian Premier League) season in which he claimed 22 wickets for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Umran Malik, an Indian bowler, rose through the ranks. One of India’s top cricket talents, Umran Malik, has made a name for himself.
When he got the chance to play for his native India, he recorded the fastest ball ever bowled by an Indian, reaching a speed of 156 km/h. But Malik’s career took a turn for the worse after a brilliant beginning.
His IPL performances have declined, and he last played for India in July 2023, as has been the case with many other pacers in the past. In eight matches last year, he claimed five wickets; in 2024, he participated in just one game. Moreover, he suffered further since he was unable to play in the first round of the Duleep Trophy India B squad due to another illness.
Regarding the same subject, Umran Malik’s career has declined since he hasn’t played much red-ball cricket, according to former India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey.
“Umran exemplifies someone who hasn’t participated in enough red-ball cricket matches. Through the IPL, he was held accountable. In a game, that is 24 balls. It’s not always possible to bowl 24 balls. The pressure required to bowl 24 balls is different from that of the red ball. Mhambrey told The Indian Express, “I think this (the T20) is not a format to judge a prospect.”
Mhambrey expressed his opinion that he is the kind of coach that like to work with players over the long term, developing their skills. “We ensured he participated in red ball and Ranji Trophy cricket. You will comprehend your bowling as soon as you play for a season. In several game phases, you will be put to the test physically. Mhambrey stated that there may be instances where you must spend six periods on the ground.

“And you will be emotionally and physically pushed to be able to bowl with such intensity when the last session approaches. And you must experience that as well,” he said.
