Trent Boult, who was instrumental in leading the team to the World Cup 2023 semifinal, has withdrawn from consideration for the team.
The 13-member New Zealand squad for the forthcoming three-match ODI series against Bangladesh, which is slated to take place from December 17 to December 23, was recently revealed. The BlackCaps have decided to rest a number of its more experienced players, which has led to the creation of a new squad.
As the captain of the ODI team, Tom Latham will take over for Kane Williamson, who will also be rested. As part of their preparation for the forthcoming home season, the team management has purposefully rested important players including Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell, Tim Southee, and Mitchell Santner.
Even though he hasn’t formally retired from international cricket, in August 2022, Trent Boult resigned from New Zealand’s key contracts. Since then, he has prioritized playing in highly profitable franchise-based T20 leagues worldwide while only sometimes taking part in series with the senior national team. Boult has declared himself unavailable for the forthcoming series, even though he has just involved in the ODI World Cup in India.
Josh Clarkson (all-arounder) and William O’Rourke (tall fast bowler) have been called up for the first time to the international team, adding a fresh face to the squad. Adi Ashok, a leg-spinner who has featured in a T20I for the BlackCaps before, is included in his maiden ODI team, replacing Ish Sodhi, who will be available for the first T20I before a break. The other spinner in the ODI lineup will be Rachin Ravindra, who did not travel with the Test team to Bangladesh.
NZ Squad:
Tom Latham, Adi Ashok (2nd and 3rd ODI), Finn Allen, Tom Blundell, Mark Chapman, Josh Clarkson, Jacob Duffy, Kyle Jamieson, Adam Milne, Henry Nicholls, Will O’Rourke, Rachin Ravindra, Ish Sodhi (1st ODI), and Will Young.
ODI Series Schedule:
Sunday, December 17: University of Otago Oval, Dunedin
Wednesday, December 20: Saxton Oval, Nelson
Saturday, December 23: McLean Park, Napier
After that, a T20I series between the two teams is set to take place from December 27 to December 31. Shakib Al Hasan is not available for the white-ball tour, instead Bangladesh has named Najmul Hossain Shanto as their captain.
