Despite his outstanding T20 cricket performance, Travis Head, who is playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2024, emphasized that Test cricket is his top priority.
Head, who is renowned for his outstanding performances in Test matches—especially against India, where he had critical roles and major hundreds in important finals—is adamant that Test cricket would take precedence over T20 leagues. He declared in an interview that he would be sticking to Test cricket for the time being and that he would only be playing in two T20 league matches a year. After completing his Test obligations, Head intends to reevaluate his suitability for selection in various formats.
“This year is the first IPL season I’ve participated in since 2017.” Travis Head told PTI in an exclusive interview conducted by Prime Video in advance of their upcoming documentary series, “The Test Season 3,” which will include the Australian team’s tour of England last year, “I would put all my eggs in the Test basket for the moment, and I will continue to do that.”
Travis Head has had a busy schedule this past year, with the World T20 approaching, the Ashes, the World Test Championship final, and the present Indian Premier League.
He is realistic despite the exertion and values the chances cricket provides.
“At this point, I would prefer to return for the 2019 Indian Premier League. For example, I’ll play Major League Cricket (MLC in the USA) this year immediately following the World T20, but things might look very different the following year.
You set priorities for what you can and cannot do each year. “Test cricket is back next year, we’re touring the West Indies, and I probably won’t be playing for many other teams,” the 30-year-old declared emphatically.
“Well, once I’m done playing Test cricket in a few years, there might be a few more chances to play a little more franchise cricket. However, I would attempt to restrict it to a few franchises at this moment and concentrate on Test cricket.”
Thinking back on his recent triumph over India, Travis Head attributed his development to learnings from the 2023 Test series in India. He highlighted the need for ongoing development and identified areas in which he may further hone his craft.

“I believe a large portion of that has been influenced by the Test tour from the previous year, as well as by spending time here and focusing on things, growing older, comprehending my game and its blueprint, knowing how to approach it, being happy, and having my family here, among other things. I’ve improved and changed over the IPL, but I still need to do more work,” he continued.
