Towards his colleague Nandre Burger, who signed a contract with the Rajasthan Royals of the Indian Premier League (IPL), South Africa’s Tony de Zorzi made a lighthearted remark. During the December 19 IPL 2024 auction in Dubai, the Sanju Samson-led team purchased the left-arm fast bowler for his basic price of INR 50 lakh.
Tony de Zorzi said that Burger owes his teammates his part of the IPL because they helped him land a contract in the lucrative league. Zorzi continued to add intriguing details to his statements, saying that the youthful, rapid pacer’s current status is a result of the team’s joint effort.
Since we assisted him in getting there, he must spend that money on the team. According to India Today, De Zorzi stated, “I am expecting something because I am his roommate on tour.”
India-South Africa level series is powered by Burger and De Tony de Zorzi.
South Africa leveled the series 1-1 against India thanks to an impressive all-around effort in the second ODI of the three-game series. The hosts easily defeated the KL Rahul-led team by eight wickets in the match played at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, South Africa held India to a disappointing 211 in 46.2 overs. With the early wickets of Tilak Varma (10) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (4), Nandre Burger was the Proteas’ best bowler. He also grabbed three wickets, including Rahul, who had amassed 56 runs off 64 balls with seven boundaries. Beuran Hendricks and Keshav Maharaj both took two wickets in addition to Burger. Young opener Sai Sudharsan of India, meanwhile, was equally impressive at the bat, scoring 62 off 83 deliveries.
South Africa easily chased down the goal in 42.3 overs thanks to a 130-run partnership between Tony de Zorzi and Reeza Hendricks (52). De Zorzi won Player of the Match after scoring an undefeated 119 from just 122 balls, blasting nine boundaries and six maximums. To secure the series, South Africa and India will now try to win the third One-Day International at Boland Park.
