"They left the auction with a team full of right-handed players," says Tom Moody. The Sunrisers Hyderabad batting lineup only has one type of batsman.

Tom Moody, the former coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad, said that the team’s one-dimensional batting order could be “exposed” on the turning tracks of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2023. Notably, Lucknow Super Giants beat Hyderabad with ease on Friday, April 7, at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Krunal Pandya played well in all areas of the game.

When they played in Lucknow, where the track was slow and turned, SRH could only score 121 runs. Tom Moody, who won the league championship with the team in 2016, said that the team’s large number of right-handers could hurt them in the future, especially on tracks with turns.

“The thing that jumps out at me is that they left the auction table knowing they had a team full of right-handers. They let go of left-handed batsman Nicholas Pooran, who hit the winning run for Lucknow on Friday. Instead, they brought in right-handed batsman Harry Brook, who was 30% more expensive but had a similar kind of impact, Moody said on ESPNcricinfo’s “T20 Time Out” segment.

“Since they didn’t include Abhishek Sharma, who bats with his left hand, there are a lot of things to figure out. When they play on surfaces like that, where being one-dimensional on slow-turning tracks can leave you open to attack, “they are sitting ducks,” Moody said.

Abhishek Sharma was dropped in favor of Anmolpreet Singh, so Washington Sundar was the only left-handed player for SRH against LSG. In the first innings, Krunal, veteran spinner Amit Mishra, and Ravi Bishnoi, among others, took six wickets from the other team’s batsmen.

The Sunrisers, which are led by Aiden Markram, have lost their last two games in a row. They will need to step up their game if they want to win. In their next game, on Sunday, April 9, SRH will play at home against Punjab Kings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
