After putting up an outstanding performance during the month of November, England’s T20 World Cup-winning skipper Jos Buttler was honoured with the International Cricket Council men’s Player of the Month award for the first time on Monday.
As a result of her outstanding performance in the one-day international series victory over Ireland, Sidra Ameen of Pakistan was named the women’s Player of the Month for the country. This makes her the country’s second consecutive recipient of the award.
Buttler, who is considered to be one of the most dangerous batsmen in all of world cricket, turned in a performance that earned him the Player of the Match award in the tense 20-run victory over New Zealand in Brisbane, which got the month off to a rousing start.
The opener, who was participating in his 100th Twenty20 International, hit 73 runs off 47 balls to offer some much-needed momentum to England’s effort in the T20 final.
Buttler displayed his complete range of strokeplay by hammering 80 runs off 49 balls while England was pursuing 169 runs to win the semifinal match against India. This was after England had already ensured their progression to the knockout stages.
England’s historic 10-wicket victory in Adelaide was made possible by the record-breaking opening partnership of 170 runs that he shared with Alex Hales.
Buttler’s crucial 26 against Pakistan’s frightening bowling attack in the championship game was the deciding factor in England winning their second Twenty20 World Cup overall.
“I would want to express my gratitude to the fans who voted for me to be the International Cricket Council Player of the Month for November. It was the most wonderful month of cricket that I have ever experienced, and it all came to a head when we won the ICC men’s T20 World Cup in Australia, so this award is a testament to the efforts of my teammates “Buttler said.
“It was quite special to lead a group of guys to the ultimate accolade of becoming world champions, and it is right up there among the greatest months of cricket I’ve been part in,” he said. “It is right up there among the best months of cricket I’ve been involved in.” Ameen won the title for the women’s category because to her overwhelming performances against Ireland in the one-day international series that took place in November.
Ameen opened the month with her greatest score in ODIs, a staggering 176 not out, as the hosts earned a convincing 128-run victory in the first match of the series. Ameen finished the series with a total of 277 runs and was only out of the game once.
The second one-day international (ODI) she played in resulted in a victory by nine wickets, and she scored 91 runs without being dismissed from 93 balls.
