Jaydev Unadkat, a veteran left-arm pacer, has been called up to the Indian Test squad to replace the injured Mohammed Shami for the forthcoming series in Bangladesh. The series will take place in Bangladesh.
Unadkat, who just recently led his team Saurashtra to victory in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, is currently in Rajkot finishing up the necessary paperwork for his visa. Once that is done, he will join the Test squad in Chattogram. Unadkat’s recent success comes on the heels of an impressive performance for Saurashtra in their recent victory.
PTI received confirmation from a BCCI source regarding the development. Because of her hand injury, Mohammed Shami was unable to continue competing in the series. There will be two tests played in Bangladesh involving India.
Unadkat, now 31 years old, appeared in his one and only Test match at Centurion in 2010, which was played against South Africa. Since then, he has participated in seven One-Day Internationals as well as ten Twenty20 Internationals.
The skipper of Saurashtra was the player who took the most wickets throughout the Vijay Hazare Trophy, with a total of 19 scalps over the course of 10 matches. Over the course of his career, he has played 96 first-class matches and taken 353 wickets.
In addition to Shami, the Indian team that was on tour was dealing with injuries to other players, such as captain Rohit Sharma, as well as young talents Kuldeep Sen and Deepak Chahar, both of whom had been ruled out of the One-Day Internationals.
