India and Ireland will face off in a three-match Twenty20 International series starting on Friday, August 18. Speedster Jasprit Bumrah will make his comeback in the series after being sidelined since September 2022 due to a back stress fracture. On September 25, 2022, at Hyderabad, the fast bowler played his final T20 International for India against Australia.
The series will give Bumrah the much-needed match experience she needs to get ready for the future big games, the Asia Cup and World Cup 2023. With Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma receiving their first India callsups, the 29-year-old will be in charge of a young team.
In contrast, Ireland, captained by Paul Stirling, will get to play against a top cricketing nation like India to familiarize their players with the challenge that strong teams face. The Irish roster includes a number of All-Stars, including Andrew Balbirnie, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Joshua Little, and many others.
Notably, India and Ireland have played each other in T20Is five times thus far, with India winning each match. The Paul Stirling-led team will be anxious to break India’s winning streak against them and seize the opportunity to take advantage of an inexperienced Indian team in the next series. The Men in Blue are eager to avenge their recent 2-3 loss to the West Indies in a five-match T20I series, which they lost.
The last time Ireland played T20 Internationals was in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Region Qualifier, which was held in July. Ireland ended in second place with four victories from six matches, earning nine points in total.
Three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) between Ireland and India will be played on Friday, August 18, Friday, August 20, and Friday, August 23 at The Village in Dublin.
