The International Cricket Council (ICC) today unveiled the 2023 ICC Awards program, which will recognize the top players in international cricket after yet another thrilling season of competition.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, the thrilling ICC World Test Championship finale, the record-breaking ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, and numerous more international events provided an abundance of unforgettable moments and performances in 2023.
The ICC Awards 2023, which will honor exceptional individual performers in men’s and women’s international cricket across the respective formats, will consist of 13 categories. The best overall performers will be awarded the renowned Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for women’s cricketer of the year and the coveted Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for men’s cricketer of the year.
Nine out of the thirteen categories will have shortlists that will be unveiled on ICC official channels between January 3 and 5, 2024. Each shortlist will have four names on it.
Announcements about the Shortlist
The ICC Emerging Men’s and Women’s Cricketers of the Year shortlists, as well as the Men’s and Women’s T20I Cricketers of the Year, were announced on January 3.
The men’s and women’s ODI Cricketers of the Year nominations will be revealed on January 4.
The last round of shortlists for the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year, ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year, and ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year, the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, will be unveiled on January 5.
A specialized group of cricket writers and broadcasters formed the shortlists for these categories, selecting the standout players based on their on-field exploits and overall year-end achievements in international cricket.
Casting of ballots
Global cricket fans will be able to cast their votes for their favorite players on the ICC website starting on January 3, 2024, and a wider panel of international media representatives, the ICC Voting Academy, and global cricket fans will decide the individual winners of the ICC Awards 2023. Each of these nine categories will have a winner selected by combining the results of the fan vote with the ICC Voting Academy picks.
There will be a total of 13 awards given out at the ICC Awards in 2023, including the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award, the ICC Umpire of the Year, and the ICC Men’s and Women’s Associate Cricketers of the Year (chosen solely by the Voting Academy).
Apart from the individual awards, the ICC Voting Academy will also select five ICC Teams of the Year, which will highlight the exceptional starting lineups in both men’s and women’s international cricket.
The ICC Awards 2023 winners will be revealed later in January 2024, following the end of the voting session.
