This summer, the world-famous Lord’s Cricket Ground will be the site of a food and drink festival. The Home of Food takes its name from the stadium’s nickname, “Home of Cricket,” and is the first time the famous stadium has opened its grounds for something other than a sports event. The goal of the event is to bring in more people and make the place look better.
This year, the event will happen on September 9 and 10. The event is the brainchild of Michelin-starred chef Tommy Banks, whose restaurants include The Black Swan at Oldstead, Roots in York, and The Edrich at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
The Home of Food will have a wide range of food trucks and well-known cooks from the UK, making it a feast for foodies. Gareth Ward of Wales’s two-Michelin-starred Ynyshir, Richard Corrigan of Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill, author and cook Selin Kiazim of Oklava, Lisa Goodwin Allen of Northcote, and Aktar Islam of Opheem will all be making delicious food at the event.
Nokx Majozi and Liam Fauchard-Newman from Rosewood London’s Holborn Dining Room will bring their famous pies, and Panzer’s, a local New York-style restaurant, will be there with a variety of their delicious food. Since 1944, the bakery has served the people of St. John’s Wood.
Kids will be able to try out cricket and learn how to cook, and there will also be expert-led tours of the famous ground. Several of Tommy Banks’ other chefs will also come to The Home of Food to show off their best dishes.
People will be able to book special events, tastings, and dinners, and Banks’ soon-to-open Yorkshire pub, The Abbey Inn, will serve Sunday lunch.
Andy Muggleton, who is the Assistant Secretary for Commercial at the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), is excited about the new project.
“There’s a lot of history and heritage at MCC, but we’re also looking to the future, and this new project is a very exciting part of that,” said Muggleton.
Banks also showed how excited he was by saying, “Like cricket, food is a theme that is celebrated all over the world, and there are some great chefs coming to show off their cooking skills.”
“Food is a theme that is celebrated all over the world, just like cricket, and we have some great chefs coming this weekend to show off their cooking skills,” said the chef.
