Irfan Pathan, a former all-rounder for the Indian cricket team, praised Shubman Gill for his batting performance against New Zealand in the third Twenty20 International match. Pathan also supported the notion that the youngster will be successful in all three formats of the sport.
It has been a fantastic couple of months for Gill as he has slammed a double century in ODIs and on Wednesday, he became the youngest Indian cricketer in history to score a T20I tonne as he surpassed the record held by Suresh Raina since 2010 as the youngest Indian cricketer in history to score a T20I tonne.
Pathan asserted that Gill is capable of becoming a formidable opponent in international cricket by modelling his game after that of Virat Kohli.
“I am a tremendous fan of his, especially given the way that he is now batting. I cannot stress enough that he has the potential to become a player for you who is proficient in all game formats.
This batter has just as much potential as Virat Kohli did when he dominated all formats for many years. To be able to translate that into performance is something entirely else “Pathan was quoted as saying to Star Sports.
During his innings, Gill hit 126 runs off of just 63 deliveries, including 12 boundaries and 7 massive sixes. The New Zealand bowlers were no match for him, and he even managed to put together important partnerships with Rahul Tripathi and Hardik Pandya.
Later on, Pandya continued to shine with the ball as well as he guided the home team to a mammoth victory of 168 runs to win the three-match series 2-1 in Ahmedabad. Pandya took four wickets in the win.
“This is something that develops over time, but Shubman Gill has already begun to show signs of it. August was the month in which he achieved his first century.
Even though we just started the month of February, Gill has already scored a total of six centuries in international cricket, while the other players have only scored a combined total of four centuries “Pathan added.
