The Colombo Strikers revealed their coaching staff for the next season of the Lanka Premier League, which will take place from July to August 2023. Simon Helmot, a very experienced Australian coach, will be in charge of the Colombo Strikers. Jerome Jayaratne and Chaminda Vaas will also work with the team as assistant coaches and bowling coaches, respectively.
Simon Helmot, who has worked as a coach in several franchise leagues around the world, said he was excited to join the Colombo Strikers. “I’m really excited to be the head coach for the Colombo Strikers. In the Lanka Premier League, I’ll be coaching a team for the first time, and I can’t wait to start a new and exciting path. The team already has some strong players, and we’re looking forward to building a strong team at the next LPL auction.
Chaminda Vaas, who has taken over 750 wickets in international cricket and is known as one of the best fast bowlers of all time, is excited to work with the Colombo club. “Since I grew up in a neighbourhood of Colombo, I’ve always felt close to the city. So, I’m very happy to be the bowling coach for the Colombo Strikers. The Lanka Premier League has given great chances to young people all over the world, and it will be great to work with some of the best players in the world in an exciting T20 tournament.
The former Sri Lanka Cricket Head of Coaching, who was in charge when Sri Lanka won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2014, is excited to work with young players. “It’s always exciting to join a new franchise,” he said. We already have Matheesha Pathirana and Chamika Karunaratne, who are both great Sri Lankan players, and I will try to tell you more about the other great Sri Lankan players. I’m also looking forward to working with the young people who will join us after the auction.”
One of the Colombo Strikers’ star players, Babar Azam, also talked about the coaching staff. He said, “The Colombo Strikers have put together a very strong coaching team. Their experience will help us a lot when we run our LPL campaign. I can’t wait to work with each teacher and do my best for the team during the next season.”
Sagar Khanna, the owner of the Colombo Strikers, said about the coaching staff news, “It was important for us to hire a group of experienced coaches, and we couldn’t be happier to have Simon Helmot, Jerome Jayaratne, and Chaminda Vaas on board with us. Some of the smartest cricket players in the world are on our coaching staff, and they will definitely lead the team in the right way.
The Colombo Strikers also named Azharuddin Qureshi as their strength and conditioning coach and Saif Hasan Naqvi as their head physio.
