The first-round squads for the forthcoming Duleep Trophy 2024–2025 were revealed on Wednesday, August 14, by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The tournament is scheduled to start on September 5, 2024, and will be played in M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, as well as Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. Shubman Gill, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Shreyas Iyer have been named captains.
Asia Senior cricketers Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah have been given a break prior to the home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, while captain Rohit Sharma has been sidelined from the competition. The players who will be called up for the two-match series against Bangladesh, however, will depart the camp following the first round and be replaced by other players, according to the selectors’ clarification.
Young Nitish Kumar Reddy’s ability to compete in the competition is contingent upon injury. The cricketer will be joining the B team if he can get back to full fitness after missing the previous five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. The selectors will name a substitute if he is not selected.
The competition’s opening round will feature senior cricketers Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav. The keeper-batter Pant may be added to the Indian Test team if he continues to show improvement in his fitness. Prasidh, who will be making his comeback after an injury, will also be in the spotlight.
