The 2023 ODI World Cup, which will start on October 5, is expected to be won by India if they continue to play the excellent cricket they have been since winning the Asia Cup, according to former India captain Sourav Ganguly.
Notably, the Men in Blue did an excellent job and won the continental cup by defeating Sri Lanka by ten wickets in the finals under the capable guidance of Rohit Sharma. Later, in the three-match ODI series at home leading up to the World Cup, the team went on to defeat Australia 2-1.
When discussing India’s chances, Ganguly emphasized that the ODI World Cup will be a significant event for the squad. He also said that the team is now playing excellent cricket, which is a cause for celebration, but he said that in order to win the trophy, they must continue playing well for the next 45 days.
“This World Cup is going to be huge. An important competition is the World Cup. It is exciting because of how well India has been playing.
For the next 45 days, we hope they keep playing excellent cricket, Sourav Ganguly told reporters.
Before the tournament begins, India will play two exhibition games versus England and the Netherlands. England is currently in outstanding form, having won series at home against New Zealand and Ireland. At the present, Ben Stokes and Dawid Malan are in outstanding form, and Moeen Ali has shown promise with the ball. As a result, India’s game versus England may show to be a fierce contest.
The Indian team’s World Cup campaign will get underway against Australia on October 8 in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. On Chennai’s spin-friendly field, India may end up playing an additional spinner in the form of Ravichandran Ashwin. Axar Patel, who is now sidelined with an injury, was replaced by the veteran.
