During the SA20 match at Boland Park on Sunday, January 21, Tabraiz Shamsi twirled a web around MI Cape Town in a masterful show of spin bowling. In the fourteenth over, the left-arm wrist-spinner caused the opposition to struggle by bowling a double wicket maiden.
Sam Curran was the first person to fall victim to a tossed-up delivery that was intended for the leg stump. Curran attempted a sweep, but ended up top-edging straight to Fabian Allen at deep backward box leg. Known for his extravagant parties, Shamsi did not let his fans down by showcasing his enchanted celebrations.

Kieron Pollard, captain of MI Cape Town, was dismissed by the spinner, who then proceeded to trap LBW in front of the stumps, capping off his masterpiece. Shamsi looped a devious length ball at Pollard, who was left dumbfounded in defence.
Shamsi finished his spell with astounding figures of 2/11 in four overs, taking his career total to six wickets at an economy rate of 6.94 in five games.
MI Cape Town was set a target of 163 by the exceptional bowling performance, which supported a clinical batting display by Paarl Royals. With the help of Jos Buttler’s 54 off 42 and Jason Roy’s aggressive 68 off 46 balls, the Royals amassed a dominant score. The opening wicket partnership between the two was a fearsome 116 runs, which set the stage for the team’s dominance.
MI Cape Town was unable to hold on and lost to a total of 103 in 18.2 overs. The Paarl Royals bowlers destroyed the opponents, led by 3/15 Bjorn Fortuin. With two wickets each, Lungi Ngidi, Obed McCoy, and Tabraiz Shamsi contributed, and Andile Phehlukwayo chipped in with one.
After winning four of their last five games, Paarl Royals’ victory has vaulted them to the top of the SA20 points standings. MI Cape Town, with two wins from five games, is still in fourth place despite the loss. The focus now turns to MI Cape Town, and it will be interesting to see how they bounce back from this setback.
