On June 29, at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, India and South Africa faced off in the T20 World Cup 2024 Final. Over the course of the competition, neither side lost, and the championship match was nothing short of exciting. After winning the toss, India decided to bat first because the pitch looked good for batting. India was struggling at 34 for 3 in four overs when Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant left the game early and Suryakumar Yadav made a rash shot. India finished with 176 for 7, mostly because to the contributions of Axar Patel’s 47 off 31 and Virat Kohli’s 76 off 59.
As they pursued, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh’s variations caught Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram off guard. South Africa regained the lead thanks to 39 and 31 from Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs, respectively. South Africa was on top when Heinrich Klaasen unleashed mayhem with a 52-run innings of 27. In the 17th over, India was back in the match as Hardik Pandya struck with a risky pick of Klaasen. With Miller on the strike, Proteas required 16 runs off the final over as Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh maintained a firm hold on the ball in the ensuing overs.
Pandya, who was bowling the 20th over, got Miller on the first ball while Surykumar pulled off the biggest catch of his career at long-on. With just eight runs conceded, he protected the score and sent Kagiso Rabada packing. India won by seven runs to become the new world champions.
