Australia and Namibia faced off in Game 24 of the ongoing T20 World Cup. The match took place on Wednesday, June 12 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. After losing the toss, Namibia elected to bat first to start the match.
Michael van Lingen and Nikolaas Davin opened the scoring with 10 and 2 runs, respectively, giving the team a poor start. Gerhard Erasmus scored 36 runs in 43 deliveries, stabilising the innings for Namibia after Jan Frylinck left the pitch for just one run as well.
But in spite of his tenacity, none of the other hitters had much success. David Wiese also left for a single after being removed by JJ Smit and Zane Green, who were out for three and one run, respectively. Australia’s skill with the ball resulted in Namibia being bowled out for 72 runs in the opening innings.
Adam Zampa, who claimed four wickets, was the Men in Yellow’s top wicket-taker. Josh Hazlewood and Marcus Stoinis each claimed two wickets, while Nathan Ellis and Pat Cummins each scored one.
Australia quickly dispatched Namibia in their pursuit of the 73-run objective. In the first eight delivery of the inning, veteran opener David Warner was out for twenty runs. Still, the Australians won brilliantly because to the knocks of Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh.
