T Dilip, the fielding coach for India, stated that despite discussions of similarities, he has used baseball coaches’ fielding strategies for cricket because he has already worked with them.
In the T20 World Cup 2024, India has advanced to the Super 8 stage. They have won three straight games and have one more to play in the group rounds. Due to an unfavourable outfield at Cantiague Park in New York, the Men in Blue were forced to cancel their practice before of their next match versus Canada. India vs. Canada, Match 33 of the T20 World Cup 2024, will take place at Central Broward Stadium in Florida on June 15.
When the fielding practice was cancelled, Team India looked to the baseball specialists in New York for advice on fielding. The argument that baseball and cricket are similar has been around for a while, yet ardent fans will argue that each sport is distinct.
We went to see the Yankees play in New York because I felt it would be a good chance to write some messages to their coaches. Baseball and cricket fielding are very similar to each other. A baseball coach and I had previously collaborated. The Times of India quoted Dilip as saying, “This session was helpful as well, and I’ll try to incorporate some of the techniques.”

“You may witness a dummy run in football, where a player starts sprinting without the ball and meets it at the last second, totally escaping the defense’s notice. It is imperative that fielders develop a similar feeling of anticipation when someone else is throwing in cricket. In reality, everything is related,” he continued.

Over time, India’s fielding has gotten much better, and their bowlers in particular have been risking their lives to stay in the game. On the pitch, players like Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah have shown more erratic play than they did in the past. Dilip claimed that having a variety of alternatives gives the captain an advantage in using elite fielders by positioning them in strategic locations.
The captain has a lot more options on where to keep his important players thanks to it. The bowlers themselves took it upon themselves to improve as fielders, which is why this has occurred. After bowling a lengthy period in the nets, the bowlers come in for fielding practice. We’ve been trying to build it, so it’s encouraging,” Dilip said in closing.
