Five-time champions Mumbai Indians experienced sadness as a result of Gujarat Titans, the IPL 2023 champions, eliminating them from the competition. Suryakumar Yadav, who nearly pulled off a spectacular pursuit against GT despite the Mumbai franchise’s failure to reach the final, had his most productive season with the bat this year.
At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, while chasing a record-setting total, Suryakumar Yadav unleashed a scathing attack against the GT bowlers, threatening to reach the formidable target all by himself. However, this was not to be, as his departure sealed the Men in Blue and Gold’s fate. During his brilliant innings, the Mumbai batsman surpassed 600 runs in this year’s competition, his highest total in an IPL season to date.
The T20 batting sensation finished the season with 605 runs in 16 matches, his highest total in terms of runs. His previous greatest season occurred in the 2018 edition of the competition, when he returned to Mumbai Indians and scored 512 runs in 14 matches. Sachin Tendulkar, the former captain of the Mumbai Indians, scored 618 runs in 2010, the most by any Mumbai batsman in a single season of the Indian Premier League.
Suryakumar Yadav rediscovered his form after a couple of forgettable national team months.
Earlier in the season, against Gujarat Titans, Suryakumar Yadav scored his first IPL century, joining an elite group of Mumbai batsmen. His average for runs was 43.21, and his strikeout rate was 181.13, the highest among batters with more than 450 runs scored this season. However, Mumbai will not add to their total of five trophies, the most of any franchise on the IPL Winners List.
The 32-year-old batsman entered this year’s tournament after two forgettable months of international cricket in which he set an unwelcome record by recording a hat-trick of golden ducks. In the 16th incarnation of the tournament, however, the inventive batter rediscovered his golden touch, leading Mumbai Indians to a fourth-place finish in the league stage.
