After Amol Kale, the President of the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA), passed away unexpectedly in June 2023, the organisation is undergoing changes. As a result, Ajinkya Rahane was able to advance beyond the Secretary level and into the highly sought-after role of President. The Secretary position is still open, thus an election will be held to fill it. Nominations must be submitted by August 21 or August 26, respectively.
The election will be supervised by JS Saharia, the MCA’s electoral officer, and the results are expected on September 3. As to the sources from TOI, the great Sachin Tendulkar put out Suraj Samat’s name as a potential candidate for the role. Furthermore, this is Tendulkar’s first time interfering in MCA elections. Samat, who will wrestle Abhay Hadap, has the support of Kale’s wife, Minal Kale.
“I am running for the role of MCA honorary secretary with a lot of vigour and a strong sense of dedication. My commitment to the cricket community and my love of the game motivate me to serve and further the goals set forward by our distinguished former president, Amol Kale. Samat told TOI, “I promise to carry on his tradition of openness, inclusivity, and member empowerment.
My main goal will be to make sure Mumbai Premier League is successful. Suraj Samat
Local talent was first showcased in public by the Mumbai T20 League, long before state competitions sprung up all over India. The league was dissolved in 2019 following its second season, having begun in 2018. The late Amol Kale had hinted in April that the competition would return with the Mumbai Premier League (MPL) as its new moniker. The candidate running for secretary, Suraj Samat, has promised to revive the league and improve conditions for club cricket players.
“I will concentrate on making sure that programs like the Mumbai Premier League succeed since they will give Mumbai’s gifted cricket players an essential platform. I’m sure I can bring about constructive change and uphold MCA’s tradition of success in Indian cricket with the help of our members, the mentorship of greats like Sachin Tendulkar, and the confidence and trust that Minal Amol Kale has in me,” Samat said.
