In recognition of his outstanding services to cricket, renowned English cricketer Stuart Broad has been awarded a coveted CBE as part of King Charles’ New Year’s honours. Legendary cricketer Broad said goodbye to the game following the Ashes in July, capping his career in grand fashion. In his final game, he struck a six off the penultimate ball as a batter to give England the lead and took the final wicket to ensure a 2-2 series draw. It was a perfect match for a fairy tale.
He is comfortably in fifth place on the all-time list with an incredible total of 604 Test wickets, only behind his longstanding teammate James Anderson among fast bowlers. Being one of only ten players in cricket history to score over 3,000 runs and take 300 Test wickets, he was regarded as an elite player due to his dual prowess as a bowler and hitter.
Trent Bridge recently renamed the Pavilion End in Stuart Broad honor as a way of honoring his incredible career total of more than 1,000 wickets. It was a heartfelt tribute. Together with another worthy laureate, Marcus Trescothick, they get an enhanced acknowledgment of the CBE honour for their outstanding achievements in sport.
I’ve always wanted to play cricket, so it’s really special to have had the career I have and to be recognized with accolades like these. According to Broad, “I’m very proud that my contributions to cricket have been recognised; it means a lot to me and my family,” the official ECB website reported.
We’re overjoyed to see Stuart and Marcus recognized in this manner as a team. For many years, they have served as outstanding representatives of cricket, greatly contributing to the game’s increased popularity and subsequent increase in participation. The stunning manner in which Stuart retired this summer was the ideal sendoff. Stuart has long been an inspiration and will go down as a true great of English cricket, according to Richard Thompson, Chair of the England & Wales Cricket Board.
