With the recent implementation of the Impact Player rule, many clubs questioned if Smith still possessed the necessary explosiveness and dynamism required for the IPL’s growing emphasis on batters. Smith has played for six different teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to far, totalling 103 matches. Under the guidance of former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting, Smith most recently played for the Delhi Capitals. Smith has scored an outstanding 2,485 runs with a strike percentage of 128.09 during his IPL career.
