On Sunday, April 2, Rajasthan Royals began their IPL 2023 campaign with a tremendous 72-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in their opening match. After being invited to bat first, Rajasthan gladly accepted and amassed a massive score of 203/5 in their first innings.
They began their IPL 2023 campaign on a victorious note by restricting Hyderabad to 131/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Jos Buttler was spotted requesting an over from his skipper, Sanju Samson, during the second innings of Rajasthan’s thrashing of Hyderabad, which quickly went viral on social media.
SRH batsmen capitulated before Rajasthan’s renowned bowling assault and were reeling at 84/7 after 14.5 overs in the second innings, giving Rajasthan entire control of the contest. Buttler, sensing a decisive victory for his team, made the gesture of sending a delivery to Samson and requested an over. The flamboyant hitter was spotted grinning as the Rajasthan captain respectfully declined his plea.
Buttler was unable to bowl, but he made the most of his opportunity to bat by smashing a quickfire fifty off only 20 balls. Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 85 runs for the first wicket off of just 35 balls, assisting Rajasthan in becoming the biggest powerplay score in IPL history.
Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal led Rajasthan Royals to a 72-run triumph.
The English opener was dismissed after hitting 54 runs off just 22 balls and hammering seven fours and three sixes during his innings. He was also named the Match’s Most Valuable Player for his performance. In addition to Buttler, Jaiswal (54 off 37 balls) and Sanju Samson (55 off 32 balls) each made a half-century to help Rajasthan exceed the 200-run barrier.
Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi were bowled for a duck in the first over by Rajasthan’s Trent Boult. Rajasthan’s start with the ball was as impressive. In the middle overs, Jason Holder, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Yuzvendra Chahal came through for their team by taking key wickets. Chahal was the best bowler for Rajasthan, finishing his 4 overs with 4 wickets for 17 runs and dismissing the dangerous Harry Brook and Mayank Agarwal.
