Everything is ready for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, which will take place in the United Arab Emirates and begin on October 3. Additionally, the competition will be the first-ever ICC event to use the Smart Replay System. The Hundred and the IPL 2024 both made use of this technology in the past.
The hawk-eye operators, who will be in the same room as the umpire, provide immediate input to the TV umpire via the smart replay system. With eight high-speed cameras, the hawk-eye cameras help capture every moment clearly, which will benefit the umpire.
Every game will have a minimum of 28 cameras for coverage, which will be enhanced with a range of analytical and visual features. With a Hawk-eye Smart Replay System in place that allows the TV umpire to rapidly assess synchronised multi-angle footage for correct decision-making, the ICC said in a release that the Decision assess System (DRS) will also be available at all matches.
The TV umpire will also benefit from having more views accessible to them than before thanks to the addition of hawk-eye cameras and split-screen footage. For instance, the TV umpire will be able to request split screen images if a stumping is called using the hawk-eye cameras. This will eliminate the need to request UltraEdge, which is needed to call a caught behind.
Only in situations where there isn’t a visible space between the bat and the ball will the UltraEdge be activated. When it comes to stumpings, the TV umpire will have various views in a single frame from the cameras.
