Shubman Gill, the Indian team’s ace batter, is expected to be a key member of the Test squad for both of their matches against Bangladesh.
However, due to workload management considerations, the senior selection committee has decided not to include Gill and the other players in the three-match T20I series, allowing them and the others some time off cricket.
With ten Test matches scheduled for this season, including a tour of Australia after the home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, India is preparing for a demanding schedule of Test matches. Gill is anticipated to play in every Test, if he stays fit, after moving and taking ownership of number three recently.
Indeed, Shubman Gill will get a break for the T20I series against Bangladesh
The three T20Is are scheduled to be contested on October 7 (Gwalior), 10 (Delhi), and 13 (Hyderabad), according to the fixtures. On October 16, the first Test against New Zealand will begin. It is crucial to give Gill a respite with a three-day turnaround, a BCCI insider told The Hindu.
The same article states that it is also anticipated that the majority of the players in the Test lineup may not play in the Twenty20 Internationals. Along with the team, this pertains to the BCCI’s primary aim for the 2023–2025 World Test Championship cycle, with a focus on the Lord’s final in June 2025.
According to the same article, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, the pacers, will receive rest according to their needs.
After nine months of international obscurity, Ishan Kishan might re-emerge in the fray
It is unclear if Rishabh Pant will play in the 20-over format, but he is an essential player that the BCCI will make a regular member of the red-ball squad moving forward.
