Reports: Shubman Gill to be named India captain by BCCI for Zimbabwe tour

Due to his status as a reserve for the Indian side, Shubman Gill had to leave the T20 World Cup 2024 early. But now that the comeback appears to be planned, it appears that the young player will take up national leadership to guide the Men in Blue on their Zimbabwe trip, which is slated to take place soon after the World Cup, according to recent sources.

Along with Gill, Avesh Khan made his way back to the country and will join him in the African nation for the five-match T20I series. With the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League 2024, the outstanding pacer had an outstanding season and put in his best effort to knock on selectors’ doors. It is therefore anticipated that a youthful team will travel to Zimbabwe, possibly with the senior players getting a break.

Indian Express claims that Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Abhishek Sharma, another IPL prodigy, would receive his first-ever call-up to the national team. Consequently, the southpaw’s close buddy and teammate from Punjab, Gill, might be his starting partner.
