In the first Twenty20 International of the ongoing series, India defeated Sri Lanka with a commanding 43-run victory. India performed brilliantly with the ball as well as the bat. The Men in Blue took the pitch first in the match and amassed 213 runs in the opening half.
India got off to a strong start headed by Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who each scored 40 and 34 runs. Gill took the podium following the match to express how much he enjoys batting with Jaiswal.
According to Gill, he and Jaiswal are a good combination, and even if their batting styles are different, they can work together to create strategies to take on the bowlers and score heavily.
“Not really (freak out). When SL was at 140/1, we discussed the need of effective communication and realised we only needed one wicket. He (Jaiswal) is a tremendous batsman, and we compliment one another. Our approach is distinct, and our strategy is straightforward: evaluate the field before confronting the bowlers. Gill stated in the post-game presentation, “When you are opening the innings, see how the pitch is behaving and play accordingly (that’s the plan).”
On July 28, India plays Sri Lanka in the second Twenty20 International.
In relation to the series, India won the game by 43 runs and assumed the lead after restricting Sri Lanka to a total of 170 runs after amassing 213 runs on the board.
