Ishan Kishan, a flamboyant Indian batsman, has received a significant boost to his stock thanks to the fact that he has been chosen to be a part of the Indian squad for the first two Tests against Australia.
Although the wicket-keeper batter has previously played for India in both T20 Internationals and One-Day Internationals, this is the first time he has been selected to play for India in the longest version of the game.
Ishan was asked some questions about the event by his teammate Shubman Gill, and the answers were included in a video that was tweeted out by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Ishan revealed in the video that his father had always referred to test cricket as the “real deal” while discussing the sport.
“I am filled with joy. My father always encouraged me to play test cricket whenever I was having success in white-ball cricket. He told me that test cricket is the genuine stuff. He claims that the Test format presents the most difficult obstacles, that it puts a batter’s skills to the test, and that it is a significant accomplishment to participate in Test cricket “Ishan can be heard saying in the video.
“I am overjoyed to have made it onto the Test team because the majority of people consider it to be the actual game. I shall make a concerted effort to do well, “Kishan continued by saying.
The southpaw discussed the response that he had from his father when he told him about his first call-up to a test match.
“I made a phone call to my family and informed them of the news. My father was pumped up and encouraged me to keep up this level of effort “Kishan’s secret was exposed.
Ishan, when asked about his experiences playing with the red ball, stated that it is a different challenge to face swinging deliveries in an atmosphere when players are sledging one other. This was Ishan’s takeaway from his time spent playing the game with the red ball.
Ishan provided an answer that was fairly reasonable when Gill asked him if he would open his Test innings with a boundary too, like he had done in T20 Internationals and One Day Internationals.
“I really enjoy throwing and catching the red ball. Because there is less pressure, the ball swings more, people joke about more, you have more time, and there is less competition, I really enjoy playing “Kishan discussed his experience spent playing for Ranji in the past.
“When batting at number six in a test match, it is essential for me to have a good understanding of the circumstances. If I were to play in the middle position and do what I typically do, which is to make powerful shots, the team would suffer as a result “Kishan stated.
“I have the experience now that rather than hitting sixes, you try to get the team in a good position by playing sensibly,” he added. “You try to get the team in a good position by playing properly.”
Ishan is aware of the limitations placed on him when playing red ball cricket as opposed to white ball cricket.
“White ball cricket and red ball cricket are very different from one another. When playing white ball, the ball does not move around as much; nevertheless, when playing red ball, you need to use your brains more, and you can’t keep showing off your childlike excitement “the young batter who was also the wicket keeper continued.
