Shubman Gill, the star opener for India, is likely to miss the team’s second game against Afghanistan on October 11 at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in Delhi as part of the 2017 ICC Cricket World Cup. But he will go to the stadium with the team. Despite the fact that he will sit out the game, he has no intention of going back to his hometown to relax.
Since he arrived in Chennai, Gill has been battling dengue fever. The 24-year-old is making good progress but was unable to see India’s opening match at Chepauk against Australia, which they won by six wickets.
“Shubman Gill is recovering and will be going to Delhi with the team.
He will be with the group and is unlikely to take a break at his Chandigarh residence. The Times of India cited a source as saying, “We hope he will be back on the field before the game against Pakistan; however, playing against Afghanistan will depend on his next medical report.”
By six wickets, India defeated Australia.
Australia chose to bat first after winning the toss in the contest. For Australia, David Warner and Steven Smith played a critical role in a crucial 69-run stand for the second wicket. But after Smith was out, the Kangaroos struggled against the other team’s bowlers.
The best bowler for India was Ravindra Jadeja, who assisted in limiting the five-time champions to a meager 199 in 50 overs. Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah both claimed two wickets, bringing the spin all-rounder’s final statistics to 3/28.
Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer were all dismissed for ducks early in the chase, giving India the worst possible start and leaving them reeling at 2/3. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, who scored 85 and 97* runs, respectively, stabilized India’s batting as they successfully chased down the target in 41.2 overs.
The two batsmen led India to a six-wicket triumph over Pat Cummins and company with a strong 165-run partnership, the best fourth wicket stand in ODI history.
