Star batsman Shreyas Iyer of India is scheduled to play in the Ranji Trophy. The 29-year-old, who was left out of India’s team for the forthcoming series against Afghanistan, will play for Mumbai against Andhra on January 12 at the Bandra-Kurla Complex field.
After his poor performances in the just-finished two-game Test series against South Africa, Shreyas Iyer has expressed his willingness to play for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy.
With the five-test series against England approaching, his appearance for Mumbai could prove to be quite advantageous. He was out for scores of 31 and 6 (Centurion) and 0 and 4* (Cape Town) against South Africa.
India will begin against England on January 25. The hosts will be hoping for a strong showing against England in order to hold onto their spot in the WTC rankings after drawing the vital series against the Proteas.
Shreyas Iyer will take Sarfaraz Khan’s place in the Mumbai squad as they get ready to play the England Lions (A team), who traveled to Ahmedabad to represent India A alongside Tushar Deshpande.
Mumbai hopes to extend its winning streak.
After a thrilling victory in their previous match, Mumbai will be entering their match against Andhra. In their last game, they faced Bihar and controlled the proceedings, winning by 51 runs to one inning. Iyer’s inclusion could provide Mumbai a significant competitive advantage going into their match against Andhra, as the team will be full of confidence going into it.
