As he arrived in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, a co-host city for the much awaited Duleep Trophy 2024–25, star Indian batter Shreyas Iyer was greeted warmly by supporters. The tournament, which is scheduled to commence on September 5, is the first in India’s domestic season.
Upon exiting his vehicle at the Alexander Luxury Hotel’s valet foyer, Iyer was welcomed by an ocean of fervent admirers. The Duleep Trophy will adopt a new format in 2024–25, switching from the zonal structure to a four-team configuration.

With a broad smile on his face, Shreyas Iyer waved back to the gathering.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made this modification with the intention of boosting competitiveness and giving players a stage on which to showcase their abilities. In a round-robin structure, four teams (A, B, C, and D) will compete against one another; the team with the most points will win.
In addition to well-known figures like Ishan Kishan, Devdutt Padikkal, Axar Patel, and Arshdeep Singh, Iyer has been tasked with heading Team D. All of the teams in the event have strong lineups, with players from other teams including Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Kuldeep Yadav.

The competition serves as an important warm-up for the September Test series against Bangladesh. Domestic players must participate, as mandated by the BCCI, as this will aid in the national squad selection process.
A flurry of activity has been going on in Anantapur in advance of the event. The city has avoided floods despite recent heavy rainfall in other parts of Andhra Pradesh, so the matches will go on as planned.
