Star hitter Shreyas Iyer may play for the Indian side in the forthcoming trip against Sri Lanka despite not getting the BCCI central contract. This is because to his outstanding performance in the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024. The third IPL championship for Kolkata Knight Riders was led by Iyer.
Iyer may be chosen for India’s next series against Zimbabwe in July 2024 in addition to his outstanding performance in the abbreviated format. Additionally, Gautam Gambhir’s first task as the Indian team’s head coach may be the matches against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. Iyer and KKR’s mentor may reunite as a result of this soon after the team’s IPL victory.
At the moment, Shreyas is not at NCA. The majority of the players present have participated in the Indian Premier League and are expected to be considered for Zimbabwe’s roster. At the camp are Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Mayank Yadav, Harshit Rana, Nitish Reddy, Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Yash Dayal. A BCCI insider was quoted by The Times of India as saying, “Some will go to the Zimbabwe T20Is.”
Although Shreyas Iyer suffered a back injury, he recovered well enough to compete in the Asia Cup in 2023. In the ODI World Cup 2023, he too played a significant role for India. Although the Men in Blue made it to the final, they were defeated by Australia under Pat Cummins.
