Due to a back ailment that has kept him out of play thus far, star India batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the current 16th season of the Indian Premier League. Before the IPL 2023, the 28-year-old decided to have surgery to repair the back injury he suffered during Australia’s tour to India.
Shreyas Iyer’s participation in the IPL was uncertain; therefore, the team’s franchise named Nitish Rana as captain in his place. Iyer has thus been disqualified from the World Test Championship final, which will be played between Australia and India starting on June 7 at the Oval in England.
Shreyas Iyer will travel abroad for the surgery, which will put him out of play for at least three months, according to a report from ESPNcricinfo.
He won’t be allowed to resume training until the surgery is completely completed. Prior to current developments, there were rumors that Iyer had decided against having the surgery, but the batter will now have it done in order to heal quickly.
During India’s tour of Bangladesh, Shreyas Iyer complained of back problems that had kept him out of the international setup for more than a month. In February, he played again at the Border Gavaskar Trophy, but he was unable to play because of identical problems during the fourth and final Test of the series in Ahmedabad.
He is thought to have experienced swelling in his lower back throughout both the Bangladesh and Australia series as a result of issues brought on by a bulging disc in his spine that had pinched a nerve. Iyer’s difficulties have gotten worse because his right calf is pressing on a nerve that runs along the leg.
Soon after the Indian Premier League 2023 concludes, the Indian Test team will begin training for the crucial World Test Championship final.
