Bangladesh’s left-arm quick Shoriful Islam was hurt in the warm-up match against India in New York, which put a serious dent in the country’s preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. In an attempt to block a shot from Hardik Pandya in the final over of Men in Blue’s innings, Islam fractured the webbing between his middle and index fingers of his bowling hand.
The warm-up game was intended to serve as the Bengal Tigers’ last preparation before their first game versus Sri Lanka on June 7. With Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper-batter, scoring 53 and Pandya scoring 40 off of just 23 balls, the Rohit Sharma-led team amassed a total of 182/5 while batting first. In the end, India won the match with ease, winning by 60 runs.
One of Bangladesh’s rare bright lights was Shoriful Islam, who took Sanju Samson’s wicket in his 3.5 overs while only giving up 26 runs.
Pandya struck the spinner with a drive as Islam finished the last over of the Indian innings. With his bowling hand, the 22-year-old tried to stop the ball, but instead he split the webbing and felt pain right away. Tanzim Hasan Sakib played the last over of the over before the physio hurried onto the pitch and the left-arm pacer was carted off for medical attention.
Dr. Debashis Chowdhury, the hand surgeon, placed six stitches.
Shoriful required six stitches to heal his wound, according to the chief physician of Bangladesh, Dr. Debashis Chowdhury, and it’s unclear when he will be available.

The front-line quicks under Najmul Hossain Shanto’s leadership may not be available for the pivotal opening match against Sri Lanka, as Taskin Ahmed is also recuperating from a side strain. As his presence would be crucial for their World Cup campaign, the team would be anxiously awaiting developments on Shoriful’s recuperation.
